New Partner Schools in Bangladesh, Indonesia and Jordan.

With the 2012 School-2-School program (S2S), Creative Learning supported the Queen Noor High School in Amman, Jordan to forge a partnership with the Panorama Middle School in Colorado Springs, Colorado. As part of the S2S program, students in each school learned about their partner school’s country, customs and language. In addition, as part of the fundraising effort led by Panorama teacher

Brittney Scott, the S2S initiative raised close to $5,000 to purchase an interactive white board for the Queen Noor High School. The Queen Noor High School is located in Wahdat, a poor neighborhood in South Amman. It has 750 female students from the ages of 13-18, and many of the students come from refugee families. There are between 40 and 58 students per class. The Queen Noor High School’s principal, Yusra Kamal Alajuze prioritized the interactive white board over other educational tools as she believes that increasing the use of technology in the classroom will lead to fewer dropouts.

As a new component to this year’s S2S program, Creative Learning supported Brittney Scott to travel to Amman in July as an “unofficial ambassador” and to volunteer at the Queen Noor School. Brittney, a Teach for America corps member and Princeton University graduate, uses a white board in her own classroom at Panorama. She trained Queen Noor teachers in using the school’s new white board and participated in an English language summer camp.

During the school year at Panorama, Brittney started an “America’s Unofficial Ambassadors” Club for students interested in learning Arabic and about Jordan and the Muslim World. For Brittney, the S2S program was a unique opportunity not just for personal and professional development but to support education programs in Amman and Colorado Springs. By creating these positive connections at the grassroots level, she’s helped dispel stereotypes in Jordan, and at home, too.
