“Taking Back Our Parks: Working Together to Make Our Neighborhoods Greener and Drug Free” was a cooperative agreement funded by the USDA/Natural Resources Conservation Service. The project was designed to make the recreation space in Ward IV greener and more drugs free by providing trees, maintenance, and beautification to historic Emery Playground. The project included awareness-raising/educational activities and supervised, hands-on experience in tree planting/maintenance and conservation for school and community children, youth, and adults at and near Emery Playground; community involvement in planning, implementing, and sustaining the outcomes of the project, and dissemination of information about the project in order to inform others in similar communities in Ward IV about conservation activities and the process that was used.
