From January 18 – 21, 2019, Comics for Peace Fellows gathered at the Creative Frontiers’ Lahore Office for their final session in the Comics for Peace program. Over these four days, the Fellows took an in-depth look into how their concepts and scripts were transformed into ready-to-print comic books and what they should understand during the next steps in marketing, disseminating, and measuring the impact of their content.
During these four days, the Fellows were exposed to many aspects of the final comic book development process. Creative Frontiers Art Director Armish Imtiaz led a workshop on how the teams’ concepts went from storyboards to fine-tuned products, ending with a sneak peak into what their finalize comic books will look like. American comic book writer Joshua Dysart, a contributor to both the Marvel and DC comic universes and a mentor who has been with the fellows from the beginning of the program, gave each team in-depth feedback on their finalized scripts. Khaya Ahmed, a young Pakistani comic book writer who advised heavily on Marvel’s new Pakistani superhero Ms. Marvel, workshopped with the Fellows on how to market and disseminate content, as well as how to manage positive and negative criticisms of their work. Creative Learning Program Manager Rachel Landale led a brainstorming session on how the Fellows could design a monitoring and evaluation process to measure the impact of their comic books within Pakistan’s unique cultural context and in-line with each of their individual comics.
